CCTV ADVICE

IP or analogue: choose for the whole system.

The best option depends on existing cabling, desired features, budget and future expansion.

A practical guide

IP systems

Network cameras typically use Ethernet and an NVR or compatible recording platform. Suitable PoE equipment can simplify power and data wiring.

Analogue HD systems

Compatible cameras send video over coaxial cable to a DVR. This can be useful where existing coaxial wiring is in good condition.

Compatibility matters

Not every camera works with every recorder. Confirm supported formats, channels, resolution and feature compatibility before purchasing.

Upgrade decision

Compare the cost of retaining usable cabling with the benefits of changing the network and recording platform. A survey can identify both options.
